Update on Airport Commission Candidates

In the few days following my recent post on candidates for the vacant Airport Commission post, there have been significant developments.  Lauren McCollum, one of the original candidates has apparently now withdrawn her name, and there are now two new candidates, both of which appear to be more community focussed, rather than obviously pro-aviation.

Laurent Charles Vonderweidt is a Santa Monica based lawyer and Sunset Park resident.  Laurent’s stated goal is to represent the interests of the neighborhood.

Suzanne Paulson is a Santa Monica resident, professor at the UCLA department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, and principal author of the 2009 UCLA study that found higher levels of air pollution near Santa Monica Airport (see here).  Suzanne clearly has the academic credentials necessary to make up for the expertise lost to the commission with the recent tragic death of commission chair Rick Brown.
